You can add any fancy items you want… But I’ve found that most people like a simple beef burger that’s cooked well.

Less is better. There are times when fancy toppings are just too much.

Just make sure to cook the patties the right way so they are juicy and taste like beef. Hard, dry meat patties are the worst thing you can eat.

The items in today’s Cowboy Burger Recipe are easy, but they work well together. All the things dad will enjoy!

What Are Cowboy Burgers?

Cowboy Burgers are hamburgers made from beef and:

  • Sauce for Barbecue
  • Fried onions or onion rings, bacon, Cheddar, Colby, or Monterey Jack cheese.
  • A part that is spicy. This could be hot cheese, jalapenos, green chilies in or on the meat cakes, or even a spicy sauce.
  • Most of the time, Cowboy Burgers have these ingredients, but they are often cooked in different ways.

Burgers with Juicy Bacon

Instead of putting fried bacon on top of our Cowboy Hamburger recipe, I like to cut up raw bacon and mix it with the ground beef.

So, the bacon fat helps make the burgers moist and full of flavor.

I also like to use twice as much spice…

First, by adding newly shaved jalapeno to the batter for the patties.
Second, choose slices of hot cheese instead of slices of mild cheese.
Today, I topped the bacon burgers with slices of spicy Habanero Jack cheese that I found at ALDI. These cheese pieces are made with both habanero and jalapeno peppers for an extra-extra kick!

How to Make the Best Cowboy Burgers

This mix of rich, savory tastes, spicy peppers, and sweet barbecue sauce is just what Dad will enjoy.

The burgers are soft, but the crispy fried onions on top give them just the right amount of crunch. Also, you don’t have to start from scratch to make them, which saves time.

What’s in Spicy Cowboy Bacon Burgers?

  • Ground Beef: I used ALDI’s high-quality organic grass-fed beef. You can buy it in packs for the whole family for a great price. We love the taste of ALDI’s grass-fed ground beef; it doesn’t have a gamey flavor like some other brands. And it’s a really good deal!
  • Bacon: Buy thick-cut bacon so that when you split it, you get nice little bits.
  • I used fresh jalapenos, but you could use diced pickled jalapeños instead.
  • Seasoning for the grill: Use a mix of spices made for cooking. ALDI has a special one for burgers.
  • Hamburger Buns: I used soft, shiny brioche buns. Normal hamburger buns are also fine.Sliced
  • Cheese: If the heat is too much for you or your dad, you can buy cheddar slices. Or add some spice with cheese that is spicy!
  • Lettuce: Leaves of butter lettuce.
  • Fresh, ripe pieces of tomato.
  • Pickles, like dill or “hamburger” pickles.
  • Pick a sauce that is both sweet and spicy. I like ALDI’s Burman’s Texas-style barbecue sauce.
  • Fried onions are salty and crunchy, and they taste like onions.

Instructions on how to make these tasty burgers

  • Set the heat on the grill to medium.
  • Put a big bowl on the table.
  • Add the ground meat, chopped bacon, grated jalapenos, and Burger Grill Seasoning.
  • Mix by hand until everything is well mixed.
  • The meat mixture should be split into 8 equal parts. Press each piece into a patty that is just a little bit bigger than the buns.
  • The patties should be put on the grill.
  • Cook each side for 5–6 minutes. Because of the bacon, the middle can be a little bit pink, but not medium-rare. As soon as the burgers come off the grill, put a slice of cheese on top of each one to start the melting process.
  • Put lettuce, tomato pieces, pickles, barbecue sauce, and fried onions on top of the burgers.
    Serve warm with your favorite sides, such as sweet potato fries, corn on the cob, and other side foods.

    • 8 ounce Appleton Farms Thick Sliced Bacon, diced
    • 1-3 whole fresh jalapeños, grated
    • 1 tablespoon Stonemill Amazing Burger Grill Seasoning
    • whole Specially Selected Brioche Buns
    • 8 slices Happy Farms Preferred Habanero Jack Cheese (or Extra Sharp Cheddar)
    • ½ cup Burman’s Barbecue Sauce – Texas Style
    • 1 cup Chef’s Cupboard French Fried Onions
    • 8 leaves butter lettuce
    • 8-16 slices tomato
    • 1 cup sliced dill pickles
